The Socceroos will be out for a healthy win against Thailand at AAMI Park on Tuesday in order to give them the best chance of automatic World Cup qualification.

Australia and Saudi Arabia, who host Japan on Wednesday morning (3.30am AEST), are level on points but the Socceroos are behind on goal difference by two goals.

Amid the talk of chasing goals, Cahill insisted the side would need to stick to their normal style to get the desired result.

“We understand what’s on the line, but we just have to keep to our structure and believe in the process,” Cahill said.

Tim Cahill speaking to media on Monday

“In the end, goals will definitely come.

“I’m confident we’ll score a lot of goals and I’m confident we’ll make a great account for ourselves.”

Cahill, who has scored 48 goals in 101 international appearances, implored Australia to be fearless and ruthless.

“If you look at all the games we’ve played, we’re a possession based teams that likes to attack and we’re never fearful of the opponent,” Cahill said.

“Tomorrow we need to just go out there and be fearless. Most importantly ruthless.”

Australia’s 2-0 loss to Japan on Thursday has led to widespread fears the Socceroos could miss out on automatic qualification.

Amid that, Cahill insisted the players remained in good spirits.

“I feel we’re ready,” he said. “This is a massive moment for our country to stake a claim for a place in a World Cup.

“We’re under no illusion that this is going to be tough.

“The players are good, we’re in good spirits and we’re prepared to go out there and win the game.”
