The Everton midfielder has recovered from a foot injury and despite several other key players missing next week's clash, Cahill says Australia have the necessary quality to see off their opponents at Suncorp.

He said: "I'm pretty confident, I feel like we've got a great squad, it's unfortunate that a few of the lads got injured, but…we've got some players that can step up and step in.

"We've got a great record against Qatar.

"The only thing that can beat us is ourselves and we need to go out there and make sure we break down every barrier that is thrown at us."

Cahill said he would be hungry for a goal on Wednesday night but expected the visitors to adopt an ultra defensive approach.

"They're probably going to put about 10 or 11 players behind the ball and make it difficult for us."
