Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has back new signing Javier Saviola to leave a lasting impression on the Bernabeu.
The Argentina forward on Friday followed in the illustrious footsteps of Michael Laudrup, Luis Figo and new coach Bernd Schuster by switching from Barcelona to Real and Calderon expects him to dazzle the Madridistas during his four-year stay.
"Saviola will triumph," Calderon told a press conference on Friday.
"He is only 25 years old but he he has all the qualities that we value in this club. He is a player that will give us unforgettable evenings."
Saviola, who joins Madrid on a free transfer from Barca, is the 27th Argentinian to wear Los' Merengues' colours.
"I am delighted to be here," Saviola said.
"I hope I can have great seasons in such an important club as this one.
"I would like to thank Real Madrid for the confidence they have placed in me. I have an enormous responsibility but I hope everyone can enjoy my style of football."
Prior to being unveiled to the press, Saviola admitted he is not expecting a smooth transition to life in Madrid, but is nevertheless looking forward to getting down to business.
"I am psychologically prepared to start this new stage in my career," he said.
"I must forget about the past and start anew at this great club. This is a very demanding institution.
"I knew some people wouldn't want me here at first as soon as I started negotiating with the club. I've always wanted to join an important institution such as this one."
Saviola insists he bears no ill-feeling towards Joan Laporta following the Barca president's suggestions the Catalans did not get their money's worth out of the South American on the pitch.
"I wish Barcelona's president had made those comments about me to my face as opposed to the press, but these things happen all the time," said Saviola, who becomes Madrid's third signing of the week following the acquisitions of defenders Pepe and Christoph Metzelder.
"I am grateful to Barcelona, but I now want to focus on Real Madrid. I will do my best to please the fans with my football."
