Just two weeks after holding a press conference to announce he was "fully confident" in his coach despite the champions' disappointing start to the season, Calderon faced the media again, this time in the wake of a 3-1 humbling by Schuster's former club.

He said: "With Schuster we will wait until the end unless a catastrophe occurs, that is to say a situation which becomes unsustainable - for example if things become very, very bad or there is a massive reaction against him by the fans.

"I'm confident in him. He's a coach who has demonstrated he's capable of winning the league with these same players.

"The situation could change, we have to be patient and hope."

Calderon denied reports of friction between Schuster and sporting director Predrag Mijatovic.

"The two work in unison and there is no bad blood between them," he said.

Calderon, who was foiled this summer in his pursuit of Manchester United winger and top transfer target Cristiano Ronaldo, also stated he anticipated new signings both in the winter transfer window and at the end of the season.

"I've been told we are very close to signing a winger and a striker in January," he said. "I've been told they are young and quick and they will come to reinforce the team.

"In July, I promise that we will sign two very great players.

"Real Madrid have money but we will not squander even one euro."
