Coyle was fired after overseeing more league defeats than wins since being relegated to the Championship, with the side just a couple of places above the relegation zone.

But Campo, who spent six years at the Reebok Stadium after signing from Real Madrid, has taken to Twitter to plead his case to take over from Coyle and rescue the club, which was relegated from the Premier League earlier this year.

"After to know what its happening in the BOLTON FAMILY I want to say that of corse I would like to help the club," Campo posted.

"I love very special moment in my life. Big SAM. Nolan. Davo. JJ Okocha. Jussy , Djorksef, Hierro…… And all FANS OF BWCG. My Family.

"Only I need to receive a call OF PHIL GARTSIDE and I will GO to BOLTON IMMEDITALY TO HELP TO THE CLUB WITH MY EXPERIENCE.

"Ok. I would try to speak WITH PHIL GARTSIDE And after meeting the fans will know of I will GO again to Bolton or NOT."

Gartside has already began the process of finding a new manager, with Mick McCarthy, Roy Keane and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the leading candidates before Campo put his hand up.
