Mark Schwarzer’s future with Middlesbrough is still unclear after reports in the UK again linked the Socceroo stopper with a move to German giants Bayern Munich. Bayern tried to sign Schwarzer in the January transfer window but are now attempting another swoop after the keeper refused to publicly commit his future to Boro.

Munich are looking to find an experienced keeper as a mid to long-term replacement for 38-year-old Oliver Khan and Schwarzer’s strong ties with Germany make him an ideal replacement. Schwarzer has expressed concern over Middlesbrough’s aspirations after the club was unable to convince Mark Viduka to stay.

Meanwhile, Brad Jones could be part of a swap deal as Gareth Southgate tries to secure the services of Albion midfielder Zoltan Gera. Southgate is likely to turn his attentions to Gera, with an attempt to sign Turkish midfielder Gokdeniz Karadeniz looking unlikely to be successful.

A deal for Gera was almost agreed in January with Albion wanting Brad Jones, Adam Johnson on loan and cash as part of the settlement. In recent seasons, Jones has been loaned to Blackpool and Sheffield Wednesday.

Jones however, will be keen to establish himself as the number one Boro goalkeeper should Schwarzer move on. The other keepers currently on Boro’s books are 22-year-old Englishmen Ross Turnbull and 20-year-old David Knight.
