Norwich chief executive David McNally insists the club's future will not be jeopardised by reckless spending when they return to the Barclays Premier League.
The Canaries secured their place in the top flight after a six-year absence with the 1-0 win at Portsmouth on Monday, their second promotion in two years after they were crowned npower League One champions last season.
City can now look forward to facing the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal next season, but despite being due an initial £42million payment from the Premier League, McNally says any money received will be spent wisely.
He told Sky Sports News: "We don't have a wealthy, a seriously wealthy, benefactor and I say that with the greatest respect to Delia (Smith) who has put £12million of her own money into the football club.
"If it's not there we won't spend it. We have a duty to the supporters of this club to ensure that there is a club here for the next one, five, 10, 100 years, so we won't gamble with the club's future."
City manager Paul Lambert is not looking to completely overhaul his squad. He said: "We need a few, don't get me wrong. If we get the right ones in and they bond together and gel together, we'll see what happens."
Meanwhile, Norwich's promotion has secured a cash windfall for Peterborough.
Posh are due a hefty pay-out thanks to a clause in the transfer of right-back Russell Martin to Carrow Road - and have also cashed in on other former players in the past week.
Director of football Barry Fry said: "We received £100,000 when Norwich were promoted from League one and we will receive £200,000 this year after they secured back-to-back promotions.
"Russell has done very well at the club and everybody is happy for him, from the management to the board of directors.
"It wasn't just that money though. Paul Coutts triggered a £50,000 payment from Preston after reaching a milestone appearance and we also received a bonus payment from Chesterfield on top of the loan fee for Scott Griffiths.
"We also had £25,000 from Crawley for Ben Wright after they secured promotion even though he hasn't played much, so we have had a good week."
Nathan Delfouneso has ended his loan spell at Burnley and returned to Aston Villa.
The England Under-21 international has been allowed to head back to his parent club early after the Clarets' play-off hopes ended with defeat at Leeds last weekend.
Delfouneso linked up with the Clarets in March and scored the winner on his debut at Hull, his only strike in 11 appearances for the club.
Boss Eddie Howe said: "We would like to thank Nathan for all his efforts during his time with us and wish him well on his return to Villa Park."
QPR midfielder Joe Oastler will sign for Torquay this summer.
Oastler has made 18 starts and nine substitute appearances since joining the Gulls on loan in October, and will be out of contract at Loftus Road at the end of the season.
Southend are to release goalkeeper Rhys Evans, left-back Johnny Herd, midfielders Adam Bouzid and Miguel Comminges and winger Louis Soares.
Swindon's on-loan duo Calvin Andrew and Alassane N'Diaye have returned to parent club Crystal Palace.
