More than 20,000 supporters turned out to see the Socceroos slump to defeat against Kuwait - the kind of turnout the bid team had wanted to really make Football Federation Australia sit up and take notice.

Bid Leader Ivan Slavich was delighted with the support from the Canberra community at the Socceroos game on Thursday night.

He told au.fourfourtwo.com: "The stadium was packed. It was an historic night for football in the Capital and the region.

"The FFA were very impressed by the attendance, the atmosphere and the fantastic stadium. The A-League4Canberra bid have ticked off another box in their bid to get a team.

"I'd like to thank the people of Canberra and the whole of Southern New South Wales for such a passionate display of support."

Canberra's bid team have since made another presentation to the FFA as they look to join the A-League party in the not-too-distant future.

In an interview with the Canberra Times, FFA CEO Ben Buckley said: "There are some matters around the capital structure of the club that need to be worked through and just some more operational details that we need to have some responses to.

''But I think having Andrew Barr there, the Minister for Sport, and having Senator Kate Lundy there [in yesterday's meeting] shows that there is significant support from the government and that's pleasing.

''So there is a lot of boxes that have been ticked.''

A decision on the 11th and 12th teams to enter the A-League is expected some time around June.
