CANBERRA is preparing for this year's mammoth Kanga Cup, the largest international youth football tournament in the southern hemisphere.
The week-long event - running from July 8 to 13 - proudly champions the mission of ‘Uniting the Youth of the World through Football’.
The inaugural Kanga Cup had just 35 teams participate but in the 22 years since, it now boasts more than 230 teams of 3700 participants from Australia and overseas.
Previous participating teams in the Kanga Cup have included representatives USA, England, Denmark, Italy, Russia, Georgia, South Africa, South Korea, Chinese Taipei, Malaysia, Philippines, India, Indonesia, East Timor, Fiji, New Zealand and others.
In 2012 teams from Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia and Chile are expected to participate with teams from Australia and New Zealand.
The Kanga Cup is an annual calendar highlight for youth footballers of Australia and the world.
The Kanga Cup is an unrivalled week of football and fun with a busy days of football partnered by a great social programme including a massive Opening Ceremony, Player's Disco, Movie Night, Coaches Dinner and Seminar and Awards Evening.
The Kanga Cup is for male and female teams Under 10 to Under 18. Three divisions are available in each age group to cater for elite or representative to just participation.
