Australian National University student student Fe Donaghue is currently living in the Javanese town of Salatiga.

Although in Indonesia to undertake a project on voter education, Fe, a football lover, has been following the bid with interest and wishing she could do her bit to help the cause.

When the Asian Cup Qualifier between Indonesia and Australia was announced for Jakarta on Wednesday 28th January, Fe discussed her ideas with a few local Javanese friends who happen to be designers. They agreed to help design a flag promoting the Canberra bid to fly at the game.

She said: "I love the game, and I'd love to see an A-League team in my home town, Canberra.

"I've made some good friends here in Salatiga and they have all taken to the cause. I think you'll agree they have come up with a beautiful flag that I can take to Jakarta and wave proudly. I'll be cheering for Australia, of course, but I'll also want people to see the support for the Canberra A-League bid."

Fe has also enlisted some local support for the Canberra bid.

"People in Indonesia are mad for football and they find it amazing that our capital doesn't have a team. They've taken an interest in our campaign to fix the situation and I think Canberra has a few fans already from Salatiga!

"Wednesday will be great in Jakarta and I'm looking forward to a packed stadium of 90,000. Then I'm heading back to Australia in March a day before the Socceroos match in Canberra. I can't believe my timing."

"I'll be bringing my flag to fly at Canberra Stadium too. I feel our bid has real momentum and I just want to do my bit to help," she said.

Canberra's prospects of landing an A-League slot were boosted last week when it was revealed Canberra Stadium would host an Asian Cup qualifier later this year, to provide an indication of whether the Canberra population will indeed embrace the sport.
