ITALIAN football superstar Fabio Cannavaro is set to tour Australia as ambassador for the new five a side Tiger Street Soccer Tournament, hitting Sydney in May.
Taking to the specially constructed oval Tiger Street Football Cage to battle for street football supremacy, players will pit their skills against each other in front of 2006 Ballon d’Or and FIFA World Player of the Year Cannavaro.
Italy’s most capped player, Cannavaro - who captained Sydney’s Alessandro Del Piero to Italian World Cup victory in 2006 - takes over the mantle of Tournament Ambassador from Dutch legend Edgar Davids.
This year the competition will expand to seven key cities throughout the Asia Pacific region, up from five in 2012.
“Having started out playing football on the streets, it is a great honour for me to be this year’s Tiger Street Football Ambassador," said Cannavaro.
"There is so much football talent in the Asia Pacific region, and I look forward to contributing to this tournament that enables both world-class and aspiring players to showcase and develop their skills, while at the same time creating an unforgettable experience for fans.
Tiger Street Football will take place on May 4-5 at Sydney’s Overseas Passenger Terminal. Registrations are now open and close March 13.
