VPL WRAP: OAKLEIGH have booked a meeting with Green Gully in the Grand Final after a 4-2 penalty shoot-out win over Hume City as Peter Zois kept out two spot-kicks.
The Cannons had goalkeeper Zois to thank for his two saves after both teams failed to find the net in 120 minutes of play in the preliminary final.
Steven Pace and Adam Nakic missed their spot-kicks as Oakleigh were successful with their four to ensure a spot in Saturday's decider at AAMI Park.
Both sides started cautiously and failed to carve out any serious chances in the first half.
Young Hume forward Atilla Ofli had the best chance of the second half when he shot straight at Zois after latching onto a pass from Richard Cardozo.
Ofli went close to hitting the winner in the 110th minute, but his shot hit the inside of the post and bounced clear.
Cardozo and Oakleigh striker Ricky Diaco both converted their first penalties before Pace was denied.
When Nakic also had his spot-kick saved and James Robinson converted his, the Cannons were 3-1 ahead.
Slave Bozinovski scored under pressure but Craig Goodwin stepped up to send the Cannons into the decider, a week after hitting the late winner against South Melbourne.
