FORMER Joeys centre-half Shane Cansdell-Sherriff won't be heading back to Australia anytime soon after signing a new two-year contract with English club Shrewsbury Town.
The 27-year-old Sydney-born defender has been with the Shrews since 2008 after stints in Denmark with AGF Aarhus and elsewhere in England with Tranmere Rovers and Leeds United.
Cansdell-Sherriff has now decided to continue his career with the English fourth tier club who finished the 2009/2010 League Two season in 12th.
"I'm very happy to be staying with the club and look forward to them achieving some success," he told the club's official website.
"The club has a very positive atmosphere at the moment and want to go forward and that is something I want to be part of.
"I know the place now and feel part of it having spent and enjoyed the two seasons here.
"I hope that I've now got a good future at the club and look forward to the next two seasons."
Shrewsbury are ambitious about their promotion prospects next season and Cansdell-Sherriff hopes to be a part of that.
He added: "I want to be involved with the club for a long time and hope to be here when we achieve promotion.
"The club has big expectations and the club is trying to put the right people in place to make that happen.
"It is an exciting time to be at Shrewsbury and I am really looking forward to coming back to work.
"With the main nucleus of the team being there then that should mean the team spirit should grow quickly.
"That will put us in a great position and I really want to gain promotion with the club."
