The Young Socceroos have stormed through the AFC tournament to remain unbeaten ahead of the final against DPR Korea.

The first goal of qualifying for next year's U/20 World Cup in Colombia has been achieved by reaching the tournament's semi-finals. Now, the young green and gold stars are eying off an historic first Aussie men's continental trophy.

And they've done it in style over a testing period on the road.

"The squad has been away for almost four weeks and we have bonded really well on and off the park," the Jets star and Young Roos skpper told au.fourfourtwo.com.

"We have worked hard for this and we are stamping our authority in Asia with some really good performances.

"This is invaluable experience to play against such high quality AFC teams, each team has played a different style, they are mostly all good on the ball and we are more than matching them both technical and tactically.

"These type of games are such important building blocks to develop us as international players, we can't wait to the final against DPR Korea"

Sunderland striker Matthew Fletcher has been a revelation in China in the green and gold.

And he's hailed the professionalism of the side and the variety of forward options in the squad as reasons why the team have succeeded.

"I knew it was going to be hard but as the tournament progressed we all realised that we have a quality team, the UAE game [in the quarter-final] was the best game I have ever played in," he said.

"The passion that we showed after we scored those two goals in extra time against UAE was something that you had to be here to believe, it meant so much to everyone.

"The way we have gone about things both on and off the park has been really professional and we have a great bunch of lads that get on really well.

"I'm a different type of striker than who we have, so I can contribute something different to the team. I have been used off the bench in all the games so and it's been great to score a couple of goals and set some up."

Fletcher has never played in a final before but he says he'll be ready whether he's an impact player or in Jan Versleijen's starting XI.

The big striker added: "It's very different playing international football compared to what I'm used to in England. It's not as physical but the players are really smart in both attacking and defending situations."
