Socceroo Nick Carle has joined the chorus of national team players banding together to back embattled keeper Brad Jones after the Boro man's howler against Uruguay cost Australia a win on Saturday night.

“You feel for Brad,” Carle told au.fourfourtwo.com. “One mistake - but he’ll bounce back. He was shattered and as keeper you’re last man standing. But you don’t get to play for Boro and make the national team if you weren’t any good."

The Socceroos have to a man backed their keeper since the game on Saturday night.

“No-one blames him. We are 11 players who win together and lose together.

"I rate Brad. I remember him from my Young Socceroos days. The kid will learn from this,” adds Carle, 25, the reigning A-League Player of the Year.

The Jets' playmaker - a 70th minute substitute in only his third Socceroo call up - injected genuine flair to Graham Arnold's side as they pushed for a late goal, although Carle admits, "I could've done better with a chance I had up the other end."

Saturday was also Carle's first game for the full national team on Aussie soil. "Yeah, my heart was pumping when I was waiting to come on. It was a big rush when they were cheering for me as I was running on.

"I thought I handled myself okay but the boys were disappointed with the result. We don't like losing."

The 2-1 loss to La Celeste was an encouraging performance from a Socceroo selection very much with the future in mind.

However, Jones' mistake only highlights the need for Mark Schwarzer to carry on with the Socceroos after regular number two Zeljko Kalac retired last October.

“We find out this week who gets selected for the Asian Cup. Fingers crossed," says Carle.

No doubt Jones and others will have a nervous wait, too.
