Reports in the English west country press say the shock deal has been done between the two clubs with Carle expected to meet up with Palace boss Neil Warnock when he returns from holiday later this week.

Media sources in Bristol suggest City will receive more than the £500,000 they paid Turkish club Genclerbirligi for Carle's services back in January.

Bristol boss Gary Johnson is thought to have already lined up a replacement for the 26-year-old who made 17 appearances for the Robins last season.

Palace want to recruit Carle as a direct replacement for Ben Watson, who last week turned down the offer of a new Palace contract.

Warnock is a big Carle fan and saw the former Newcastle Jet help Bristol City end Palace's own play-off hopes last season.
