Carle had been in the frame for a spot in the final squad but was cut just days before the squad left for South Africa.

Speaking today ahead of the Sydney Festival of Football kicking off on July 25, the Blackburn Rovers star said he was disappointed Carle was not picked for South Africa but believed he will rise again in the green and gold.

"Nick's always been a very talented player," said Emerton. "He's always had loads of ability and there was never any doubt in my mind that he'd go on and become a great player.

"He's done that and has matured a lot."

Emerton is set to line-up against Carle when Blackburn and Sydney meet in the final match day of the festival on July 31 at the SFS.

It will be a reunion of sorts for the two players who began their careers together 13 years ago at NSL club Sydney Olympic.

"It was a shame not to see him [Carle] involved in this World Cup," added Emerton. "But if he keeps going and continues to put in the hard work and dedication I think we'll see him in a Socceroos jersey a few more times yet."
