NICK Carle is playing in a country where it never stops raining but the Socceroo midfielder admits a personal drought is cause for concern.
The Bristol City man has still to net a goal for the English Championship club since his switch from Turkish club Glenclerbirligi in January. While City remain on course to book a spot in the Premier League at the end of the season, Carle has yet to enjoy that scoring feeling after 14 outings.
The 26-year-old, who picked up the goal of the season award at the end of his final season for the Newcastle Jets in the A-League, can see the bigger picture in terms of results mattering more at this point but that doesn’t mean he’s content with a personal lack of goals.
He said: “I did set myself a personal target when I first came here but that part of my game hasn’t gone too well. I’ve always chipped in with goals wherever I’ve been and it’s playing on my mind. I think it will probably continue to play on my mind until I do score.
“But I know if I keep working hard and doing the right things, a goal will come. When I get the first one, the pressure will be off and more will follow.
“At least I’m getting into the right positions and getting chances. But it feels good to come into such a good side and be up near the top of the league. I’ll quite happily go all season without a goal just so long as we’re promoted to the Premier League.”
