MELBOURNE Victory’s Carlos Hernandez was missing from training this morning with captain Adrian Leijer backing coach Mehmet Durakovic’s decisioin to drop the Costa Rican from Wednesday’s Celtic clash.
“It had to happen," said the Victory skipper. "We were very disappointed. He’s let his team mates down and know he’s got a lot of work to do to get the respect back from his team-mates.”
Hernandez arrived on Sunday and trained with Melbourne Victory yesterday but was dropped for Wednesday night’s clash at AAMI Park against the Scottish legends.
“Carlos won’t be playing. He went to America on trials on his own accord,” Durakovic said yesterday.
“We knew that he was going on trials but basically we had some points to work out and told him to come back on July 4 – which he didn’t.”
The star playmaker and former A-League player of the year, left Melbourne for a trial with MLS outfit Real Salt Lake last week.
Leijer added: “It’s disappointing but we’re all in this together and hopefully he realizes the mistake he’s made and comes back and does his best work on the park.”
Celtic trained at AAMI Park in front of a crowd of around 1000 fans this morning.
Sources say a crowd of 25,000 is expected for the club's final game of their Australian tour against Victory at AAMI Park.
