The Victory midfielder came on as a second half substitute, but wasn't required to do much with his side already three goals up. He got a few useful touches, but was unable to increase his team's lead.

Alvaro Saborio scored in just the first minute of the match to send the 18,000 strong crowd at Estadio Ricardo Saprissa into raptures. Eleven minutes later and it was 2-0 when Celso Borges scored from a clever cross from Estaban Sirias.

The highly-rated American team looked completely embarrassed when Pablo Herrera added his name to the scoresheet in the 69th minute, before Landon Donovan scored a last minute consolation goal for the visitors.

The result means Costa Rica is now two points clear in the CONCACAF standings after four games, with the top three gaining automatic passage to South Africa 2010. Costa Rica is currently ranked 41st in the world, while the USA shot up to 14th.

Costa Rica's next assignment is on Saturday away to bottom of the group Trinidad and Tobago. A win in that game would give it a strong foothold on a qualifying spot at the halfway mark.
