Sydney FC has announced that they have re-signed midfielder David Carney for another two years ending speculation of a mooted move away from the harbour city.
Carney’s new deal is for two-years, meaning he will be with the side until at least 2009.
Carney’s 2006/07 A-League season was blighted with injury after he underwent shoulder surgery early in the season. The blonde winger was one of the side’s best performers in the opening season of the A-League, as he opened up defences under then-manager Pierre Littbarski.
Still only 23, Carney is hoping to re-find the form that made him so dangerous and a fan favourite.
"I am happy to have re-signed with Sydney FC until 2009 and confident that the club will challenge for major honours in the coming seasons," he said.
Sydney FC CEO, George Perry rates Carney as one of the “best Australian players in the Hyundai A-League”.
Iain Fyfe, Terry McFlynn and Robbie Middleby have also recently pledged their futures to the club.
