SOCCEROO David Carney put in a full shift on the opening day of the new Dutch Eredivisie season as champions FC Twente begun slowly with a 0-0 draw at Roda JC.
Carney, who only made eight appearances off the bench in the league last term, appears first-choice this season at left-back having started in last weekend's Dutch Super Cup victory over Ajax.
Twente are now managed by former Standard Liege boss Michel Preud'homme following the departure of Steve McClaren - who brought Carney to Enschede - to Wolfsburg.
The Tukkers had the better of possession throughout the contest, but were let down in the final third.
Elsewhere with Aussies abroad overnight, in Romania's Liga I, Spase Dilevski started and played 79 minutes in midfield as Universitatea Craiova lost 1-0 at newly promoted Victoria Branesti.
