SOCCEROO David Carney has denied blasting his club boss in a bizarre outburst and insists he wants to stay at Sheffield United.
The left wing flier has had an emergency clear the air meeting with Blades boss Kevin Blackwell and today vowed to fight for his place in the team.
Earlier this week he was reported by The World Game website as having blasted Blackwell and his longball tactics, and said he hoped to leave the club immediately for the sake of his Socceroos career.
"I really don't want to play for him (Blackwell) any more," Carney was quoted as saying. "He's a horrible man to play for, tactically he's terrible - it's just all about the long ball.
"I'll have a talk with him this weekend and hopefully get out on loan to a club that suits my style better.
"If I changed my style to suit him then I probably wouldn't get picked for the Socceroos anymore."
The SBS story added: "I don't think he (Blackwell) will ever take Sheffield United to the Premier League or coach at that level.
"He doesn't have the brains or the ideas to do it in the top flight. He belongs in the lower leagues - but I don't belong there with him."
But today Carney denied the outburst and pledged his future to the Coca Cola Championship club.
"Remarks have been attributed to me that I certainly did not make," Carney told the club's official website. "I did a couple of interviews but things have been blown out of all proportion.
"There is nothing more that I want than to stay here and fight my way into the team."
He added: "I have spoken to the Gaffer and he has indicated the need for me to work harder and change my game in order to do that, which I accept.
"He has done wonders for United since he came to the club and I have really enjoyed the whole experience in Sheffield.
"It is just unfortunate that I have yet to make the team this season having been away with Australia. It is frustrating and it is definitely up to me to knuckle down here."
"I want United fans to accept that the story is untrue and that I really want to do my best for Sheffield United."
