Carney, 25, was last in domestic action in nine games on loan to the-then Championship rivals Norwich City, now relegated to League One.

But the Belgian side are intrigued by Carney's regular international appearances for the Socceroos despite his lack of club game time and want to put him through his paces.

It's not yet clear if the move will be permanent or another loan but Anderlecht are currently looking for a replacement for left back Jelle Van Damme who is tipped to transfer out of the club shortly.

Fellow Aussie Rhys Williams was also this week linked with Anderlecht but the club have since denied that and confirmed Carney's arrival on Wednesday instead.

Since joining Sheffield United two years ago from Sydney FC after being one of the rare Australian standouts at the 2007 Asian Cup campaign, Carney has appeared in just 22 games for the Blades...while he made almost as many appearances for the Socceroos in a similar time frame.

Anderlecht - who play in Perth Glory colours - are one of the top Belgian sides and were a powerhouse of European football in the late 70s and early 80s.

Their official website confirmed today: "The Australian leftback David Carney is in Belgium and will test in Purple-White."
