Carney came off the bench to level on 63 minutes, although it appeared he used his hand to control the ball prior to the strike at Allianz Stadium.

“He’s brought it down with two hands,” Muscat told Fox Sports.

“You got a referee on a couple of weeks ago to explain the decision, so ask him what he was looking at.

“Normally you’d be looking at the ball to see if there was a foul.”

The substitute went on to net another goal 15 minutes later to seal the victory for the Sky Blues who remain perfect at the top of the table.

“It certainly changed the complexion of the game without doubt,” he said.

“It was probably their first shot on target. It was a little bit hard for us to take.

“All in all I thought we performed pretty well, we should’ve went into the break two or three nil up.”

Victory lead 1-0 at the interval through Mitch Austin’s goal, but Besart Berisha missed a penalty while Marco Rojas fluffed a simple chance from close range.

“They’re opportunities and Bes has missed a penalty, we should’ve been two or three nil up at half-time,” Muscat said.

“When you’re at home it doesn’t matter, the game is done and dusted but it wasn’t to be.

“We’ll take a lot of positives out of that. Soon the decisions will turn our way.”
