SOCCEROO David Carney has impressed football chiefs during his trial at top Belgian side Anderlecht - but any move has been put on hold.
Carney spent a week with the Brussels-based club and won over the management and coaches with his flair and ability.
But any move will now hinge on the sale of club vice-captain Jelle van Damme who currently holds down the leftback role.
He has been strongly tipped with a move away from the club all close season, but no deal has been done yet - leaving Anderlecht without any need for a replacement.
It now looks likely that Carney will be first choice if van Damme does leave.
The club's website admited: "The Australian left back David Carney's test period at RSCA was successful."
And Anderlecht manager Herman Van Holsbeeck added: "His recruitment, however, will be postponed because we are not in immediate need of a leftback right now.
"But we will keep a close watch on Carney in the future."
Carney has been placed on the transfer list with his UK Championship club Sheffield United after he failed to hold down a first team place last season and the club goes on a major cost-cutting exercise.
