The Uruguayan has been linked with a number of clubs across Europe, including Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester City.

Cavani has a €63m buy-out clause, but De Laurentiis stated that he did not think the forward would leave before that clause expired on August 10.

De Laurentiis is keen to resolve the issue of Cavani's future and declared that he would 'smack' the 26-year-old if he had not made a decision by July 20.

Cavani has been left unimpressed by De Laurentiis' remarks and revealed that he is eager to meet the president in person to discuss his prospects at the Stadio San Paolo.

"Those statements were strong and I didn’t really like them very much,” Cavani said.

"Now I want to speak with the President face-to-face, as I have done on numerous occasions in the past."
