Drogba's latest double strike earned a 2-0 win at Wolves and helped Carlo Ancelotti's side move four points clear at the top of the Barclays Premier League.

The Ivory Coast international achieved his biggest haul in a campaign three years ago and he moved onto the 25-goal mark in 2009/10 with one in each half at Molineux.

He has been in prime form since returning from the African Nations Cup and ensured the Blues took advantage of Manchester United's 3-1 reversal at Everton yesterday lunchtime.

Cech said: "Didier has been brilliant all season. He can beat that 33 goal record. You can see he is in form. He is fit and he is confident.

"If he stays fit, I am sure he will get more goals. It's always difficult to say if anyone is in the best form of their career.

"Sometimes, if a striker is not scoring as many goals, they can still be in good form.

"But Didier has been brilliant for us for many years. He has always been on top. He has always been brilliant for Chelsea.

"He is one of the best strikers in the world and he just keeps doing the same things."

Cech had to pull off several fine saves early in the second half before Drogba raced onto his long clearance to score the decisive second goal.

He said: "Wolves had their chances, they didn't take them and we killed them off.

"There were times when they would have felt they could have got something out of the game and, at just the right times, we scored our goals."

Ancelotti knows the title race is far from over despite his side's current advantage and is aware his players have to be switched on for every game.

He said: "We have to stay quiet and stay calm because there are a lot of games left.

"Four points in front is a good situation but we have to know the race for the title is long and we have to pay attention every game.

"But we had the chance to improve our position after Manchester United lost at Everton and we seized it even though we didn't play that well."

Ancelotti expects full-back Yury Zhirkov, who set up Drogba's first goal, to be fit for the Champions League clash with Jose Mourinho's Inter Milan on Wednesday despite suffering a tight calf.

Ricardo Carvalho (hamstring) and Frank Lampard (virus) will also be available after missing the Molineux clash.

Wolves defender Stephen Ward believes his side will survive in the top flight if they repeat that level of performance against sides less capable than Chelsea.

He said: "We limited them to chances outside the box, and it was unfortunate to concede the two goals, but we created enough chances to have got something out of the game.

"We were bitterly disappointed in the dressing room but, to put on a performance like that against one of the best teams in Europe, definitely gives us heart to push on for the rest of the season.

"Cech made more saves than Marcus and Drogba was the difference. He is a world class striker.

"Over the last four or five games we've played well. If we play like that for the rest of the season, against so called lesser sides, then we will be okay.

"It was a real positive performance against a team who could win the Champions League this year. We can definitely take heart."

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy said: "I am not lambasting the performance. It was good. But we let them off the hook, and 2-0 is not the story of the game.

"We are not expected to beat Chelsea but we should have been talking about a draw at the very least and that is what has hurt and disappointed me

"But there are a lot of games to go, there will be ups and downs, and what we end up with is what is important."
