EXCLUSIVE: Billy Celeski says Graham Arnold's inclusion of Archie Thompson in his Olympic squad has armed the Olyroos with an attacking weapon in a class of its own.
The question of strikers has caused much debate since Arnold revealed his 18-man squad last week.
Thompson's inclusion was overshadowed by the omission of youngsters Nathan Burns and Bruce Djite.
But Celeski feels Thompson's value will really be seen once the tournament gets underway in China.
He told au.fourfourtwo.com: "I'm very happy to see Archie in there, to be honest. Archie Thompson going forward is in a class of his own.
"With his pace and dribbling ability, it will breed tremendous confidence in the rest of the boys. It will be wonderful to have him in the team."
While delighted to see Thompson on board Celeski is anxious to make sure that his own Olympic value is recognised.
He said: "To be able to call yourself an Olympian is pretty special and you want to play as big a part in the event as you can.
"We've got four or five lead up games before the tournament and I'll be using those to try and cement a place and impress."
Stuart Musialik has said the club-like spirit in the Olyroos set up could be a big advantage in Beijing and Celeski agrees with that view.
He said: "There's boys here who have known each other from the AIS days, some maybe before that. That can only help."
Amid all the excitement and anticipation Celeski says there remains a need for cool, calm heads and to ignore the hype.
He said: "It is one game at a time.
"Each team in our group will bring something different. Argentina will be favourite but each team is strong and we have to adjust to them accordingly."
