Neil Lennon will meet with Freddie Ljungberg's representatives this morning to hopefully thrash out a deal for the former Arsenal star, who has been training with the Hoops this week.
The Swedish legend was at Parkhead last night to see Paddy McCourt score the winner against Motherwell to take Celtic one point ahead of Rangers at the top of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League - in a match that also saw skipper Scott Brown get sent off to render himself ineligible for Sunday's Old Firm game at Ibrox.
Afterwards the Celtic boss hinted that he is edging closer to securing the services of the 33-year-old midfielder.
"The talks will hopefully be on-going today," he said. "We are hoping his representatives are up this morning and we can get something bedded down."
Lennon will also continue to monitor Dwayne De Rosario after his club, Toronto FC, and Major League Soccer claimed they had not authorised the Canadian international to train with the Parkhead club.
The former Celtic skipper said: "I think it was an administrative problem but that has been resolved so he can carry on."
Lennon will this morning assess the bumps and bruises picked up by his players against the Fir Park side, but he claimed Brown, booked in the second half for a foul on Chris Humphrey, had been unlucky to pick up another caution with moments remaining for his challenge on Steven Hammell.
The Celtic boss, who saw Olivier Kapo and substitute Daryl Murphy go off injured to leave them in doubt for the trip to Ibrox, said: "If you see it again, I think Scott tried to pull out of the tackle and Hammell kicked him on the follow through.
"He is pulling away and he slipped so it was totally accidental and I am very disappointed with that decision - among many that I was disappointed with last night.
"Brown was immense. He is frustrated and it will be a blow to him and us."
Motherwell will confirm Stuart McCall as their new boss today and Hammell, who denied trying to get Brown sent off by over reacting at the Celtic captain's tackle, claims it is a fresh start for the Fir Park players, who were lucky not to be down and out at half-time.
He said: "The new boss came in and briefly introduced himself and spoke about the game and what we could have done better in the first half.
"We can take a bit of credit for the way we played in the second half but that was as poor as we have been in the first half.
"But it's up to us all to impress the new manager and hopefully that starts against Hamilton at the weekend."
