Celtic, who currently have Socceroo Tom Rogic on their books, will stage academy camps in Shepparton, Ballarat and Mount Gambier where one young player may be given a chance to trial with the Glasgow club.

The training academy camps will be open to boys and girls of all abilities from ages 7-18 while coaches from the Hoops will travel to Australia to inspect the local talent.

Andrew Barnett, spokesman for the Ballarat training school, said: “It’s a big thing, it’s a great experience for the youngsters.

“Celtic are coming here to pass their knowledge onto our local talent and up and coming talent and we’re not just working with certain age groups, we’re working with the whole football community.

“If this all works well it could become a really good partnership for Ballarat and football and Celtic.”

Apart from Rogic, the likes of Mark Viduka and Scott McDonald have played for Celtic previously. Australians are common place in Scottish football with seven currently plying their trade in the country.

The Bhoys talent hunt Down Under follows Liverpool's recent move to set up a permanent Australian base in Lismore.

The Shepparton camp runs from April 3-8, Ballarat from April 10-15 and Mount Gambier from April 17-20. It's understood plans are in place for further camps in Brisbane the same month.
