Mariners coach Wayne O'Sullivan has called on his side to create more scoring chances as they look to upset high-flying Melbourne City.
City come into the match against Central Coast on a three-game unbeaten run, after smashing Newcastle and Western Sydney both 3-0.
The Victorian club, who are headed into the finals, face the Mariners at AAMI Park on Saturday.
Caretaker boss O'Sullivan, who took over from Paul Okon two weeks ago, has been pleased with his side's effort recently but wants to see them initiate more attacking opportunities.
Central Coast have only scored 26 goals this season - the lowest in the A-League, two fewer then Wellington Phoenix.
"We want more of the same to an extent, but at the same time we've acknowledged we need to create more scoring chances," he said.
"As a group it's been a struggle all-year that we haven't created enough chances compared to other teams. Our challenge is to be more proactive in the front third in particular, and that's something we've worked on this week."
O'Sullivan believes the Mariners displays in 2017/2018 have not been rewarded with the results they deserve.
"We’ve discussed as a group about trying to put into perspective the season so far and to date, and staying strong in that moment, because we’ve deserved so much more as a group throughout the entire year," he said.
"In the last two weeks, that’s kind of been reflective as well of the two performances, Sydney in particular. We were disappointed not to get something at all out of that, we were well worth a point.
"At Brisbane last week, it was a struggle at times but in the second half in particular, I thought we were solid in what we did. We’re disappointed in the two results, but at the same time performance-wise, attitude-wise, we’ve been exceptional.”
