The 20-year-old has joined the Premier League club on a five-year deal for an undisclosed fee, becoming Jose Mourinho's second signing since returning to Stamford Bridge.

The midfielder helped Vitesse to a fourth-place finish in the Eredivisie last term and represented the Netherlands at the UEFA Under-21 European Championship last month.

"I'm very happy to be here at such a nice club with great players," Van Ginkel told the club's official website. "I am really happy, the stadium is good and the training ground is fantastic.

"I know about all the players and will meet them on Monday. I expect a lot, I've watched matches and it's really nice to be here."

Van Ginkel follows Andre Schuerrle in joining Chelsea ahead of the 2013-14 campaign.
