Pizzi was impressed by the performance of the Socceroos in their final group clash in Moscow.

"Today it is true it was most difficult for us to find our own rhythm and our own game," Pizzi said.

"There was two reasons for that - our opponents were excellent, they performed very well. They played very aggressive football, maybe they were a little too aggressive.

"They were very strong and in many cases we are normally stronger - when we have to fight for a ball, we win it.

The Chileans said Australia were arguably 'too physical'

"But in ths case our opponents managed to get the ball. I didn't underestimate Australia at all. In fact, this was more or less the same level that you can see in the quarter-finals of a World Cup. I think it could have been quite possible.

"Our opponents kept the pressure all the time and we really had to fight. We did not feel completely comfortable on the pitch. Our opponents really stopped us.

"They closed every gap. Sometimes maybe they were too physical, I don't know.

"I wouldn't say it was a poor performance [from Chile]."

Chile will now Portugal in the semi-finals after Germany defeated Cameroon 3-1. The world champions play Mexico in the other semi-final.
