Valdivia, who captained the side in the Copa America, was one of six players slapped with the lengthy suspension after incidents with hotel staff at the team's accommodation in Venezuela.

The Palmeiras forward made the announcement through his father and agent, Jorge Valdivia Sr, who said: "Jorge is calm and told us in a family meeting that it was the end and that it has been great to play for Chile."

Along with Valdivia, striker Reinaldo Navia and defensive quartet Jorge Vargas, Pablo Contreras, Rodrigo Tello and Alvaro Ormeno were also involved in the incident, about which the the Chilean FA made public their decision on Tuesday night.

However Ormeno insists that he was not involved in what happened at Puerto Ordaz's Mara Inn Hotel on July 5, during the team's celebrations after reaching the Copa America quarter-finals.

The Gimnasia defender said: "I did nothing.

"I only went to have breakfast and I was punished for it.

"Only one chair was broken and they (the players) started to throw some jam and marmalade, but it was just a joke."
