The Australian scored in the 90th minute to add to a Felipe Caicedo (44) strike which handed the home team the lead.

Pape Omar Faye (70) responded for the visitors, but it was not enough as Basle maintained the pressure at the top of the table.

Christian Gross' team now have 16 points from their opening eight fixtures, one fewer than leaders FC Zurich, who were held to a 1-1 draw by Aarau on Saturday.

Elsewhere, Young Boys climbed to fifth with a 3-1 win over bottom-placed St Gallen.

A 15th-minute penalty by Calvano Tiago added to goals by Miguel Portillo (29) and Kwabena Asamoa-Frimpong (30) saw the home team race into a healthy lead by the half-hour mark, before substitute Murat Ural (56) pulled one back early in the second half.

Both teams were then reduced to 10 men with Stefano Razzetti seeing straight red in the 85th minute followed by Asamoa-Frimpong a minute later as the game ended on a low.

However, the three points helped Young Boys move to 12 points and keep pace with the leaders.
