But upon his return to the Basel starting line-up on Sunday, the Aussie made an immediate impact with an early chance hitting the crossbar, before he netted on 45 minutes.

The goal came from a corner where Cagdas Atan nodded on the cross with Chipperfield finishing it off from close-range.

Chipperfield's teammate Marco Streller put the result beyond doubt by converting a 62nd minute penalty, as Basel stay four points behind leaders Young Boys.

Elsewhere overnight, Nikita Rukavytsya was another Aussie on the scoresheet with the opener in KSV Roeselare's 2-1 loss to Belgian leaders Anderlecht.

Rukavytsya's strike, his second in two games and fourth overall for Roeselare, came on a swift counter-attack with the Aussie sliding in a low left-foot shot under the Anderlecht keeper.
