BASEL have opened up a six-point lead at the top of the Swiss Super League after they defeated closest rivals Aarau 2-0.
Australia midfielder Scott Chipperfield opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time and a Marcos Gelabert strike in the 63rd minute ensured Basle's seventh win in eight games.
At the other end of the table, Lucerne collected just their second point of the season after they came from behind to draw 1-1 with FC Sion, who finished the game with 10 men.
Goran Obradovic gave Sion the lead after 47 minutes only for Luiz Anderson Paquito to level from the penalty spot eight minutes later.
