Currently with Swiss side FC Basel, Chipperfield has revealed that he is aware of interest from the struggling Sky Blues.

"They are interested, I am interested, it's definitely an option," he told the Illawara Mercury. "Signing with Sydney FC would be good for me, I could finish my career at home."

Chipperfield is clearly tempted by the chance to end his playing career on home soil.

"It would be good to have one more year and have my family and friends come and see me play," he added.

Sydney FC CEO Edwin Lugt did little to dampen the speculation when asked about the Chipperfield link.

"If Scott was available at the end of the current Swiss season we would of course be interested in holding discussions with him for the 2011-12 season," Lugt said.

However, it is understood that Chipperfield's current club are also keen to keep him for another year.
