Aarau had led the way after last weekend's victory over Lucerne, but Basle quickly set about overhauling their lead at the top of the table as Valentin Stocker opened the scoring in the 13th minute.

Scott Chipperfield had added a second before Almen Abdi got one back for the hosts. Carlos Alberto Carlitos then made sure of the points for Basle with a late brace.

The win moves Basle on to 15 points from six games, one point ahead of Aarau and five ahead of Zurich.

Young Boys were also big winners away from home on Sunday, beating 10-man Lucerne 3-0.

Marco Schneuwly opened the scoring in the fifth minute and things got worse for the hosts when Claudio Lustenberger was sent off in the 29th minute.

Goals from Carlos Varela and Kamil Zayatte then capped the victory for Young Boys.

The win moves them to sixth place, one point behind Neuchatel Xamax, who needed a last-minute equaliser from Daniel Joao Paulo to rescue a point from a 1-1 draw at home to Grasshoppers, who had led through Ricardo Cabanas' eighth-minute goal.
