The 26-year-old played 105 games over his eight seasons with Argentinian giants Boca Juniors during which time he had a short loan with lower Club Atletico All Boys.

The Argentine trained at AAMI Park with City this morning and will fill the third marquee slot should the signing be successful.

Colazo is ineligible to play at present pending a medical, but City coach John Van’t Schip confirmed he was hopeful of landing him.

“We like him, he’s a good player, he played at a high level at Argentina, Boca, everyone knows they’re the biggest club along with River Plate in Argentina, he’s been a very big part of that team,” he said.

“He had some issues therefore he didn’t play too much in the last period, he has the opportunity and we like the opportunity to join us in this project.

“So we’re happy and hopefully we can get him in, but I don’t think it’ll be a big problem.

“He’s a player that can play up front, midfield and even in defence, so he’s a versatile player and has good qualities, technically strong and a good left foot.”

Van’t Schip confirmed Colazo will be the final signing by the club before the end of the current transfer window with the mentor content with fullbacks Josh Rose and Manny Muscat.

His side take on Western Sydney Wanderers in the quarter-final of the FFA Cup at AAMI Park Wednesday night but will be without Corey Gameiro (ACL) and Ivan Franjic (heart inflammation).

Gameiro did his ACL last week during a training session in Townsville capping a horror two-year run of injuries.

Van’t Schip admitted the loss of Gameiro was a setback, but that his side would not be distracted by his absence.

“It’s very disappointing, for him of course the most, third time in a very short period and it’s tough mentally very hard and we’re doing what we can to support him, but in the end he’ll be out again for a long period,” he said.

“Everyone feels sorry, but Corey as we know has been out for a long time, so he was just coming back in. Of course it affects them more in the sense that person, not directly onto the pitch.”

City take on Wellington Phoenix in the A-League season opener in a fortnight placing extra importance of claiming victory on Wednesday night.

“It’s going to be a massive test and very important for us to see where we are with only a few weeks before the A-League starts,” he said.

“We’re approaching this game as a final game because it’s a cup game and we want to win, it’s going to be a very interesting and important game.

"Very important, it’s a final game, we’re approaching it as something we want to win, in that sense there’s nothing like we’re seeing it as a build-up game, no, we’re seeing it, we want to perform at our best, so that’s how we approach it.”

Van’t Schip said Tim Cahill would most likely start the game tomorrow night.
