A crowd of 5401 witnessed City hit the front foot early as Tim Cahill claimed his first competitive goal for the club as well as Nicolas Colazo impressing on debut, however a dirty night for the Wanderers with captain Nikolai Topor-Stanley missing out on Round 1 of the A-League after being sent off.

It took just two minutes for City to hit the front, a stunning bicycle kick from Michael Jakobsen gave the home side the lead after Brattan’s free kick had Andrew Redmayne punching the ball right into the path of the Dane.

After the 14th minute Bruno Fornaroli looked to have doubled the lead when he chipped Redmayne, but referee Jarred Gillet disallowed the goal adjudging he fouled Dimas in the process.

The Uruguayan would get his goal after combining with Tim Cahill who made the most of the cross to make it 2-0.

On the brink of half-time a backheel by Cahill found Fornaroli clear in the box, however was brought down by Wanderers captain Nikolai Topor-Stanley who received his marching orders.

Cahill was quick to claim the penalty and had no troubles converting from the spot to make it 3-0 snatching his first competitive club goal in Australia.

The Wanderers continued to feel City’s wrath, Fornaroli nearly made it four after his free kick hit the post just six minutes into the second half.

At the 65th minute City’s three South American’s were involved as Colazo’s cross found Fornaroli whose diving header stuck the upright which landed to Fernando Brandan to make it 4-0.

Western Sydney pulled one back when Shannon Cole’s cross managed to find Dimas who headed it past Thomas Sorensen, but was nothing but a consolation as City prevailed.

The win means City will play the semi-final on October 18th/19th or 24th/25th.
