City sit third on the table after nine games and take on fourth-placed Central Coast Mariners on Sunday night.

City got their fifth win this season with a 2-1 victory over Newcastle Jets last week and Jakobsen said he was unhappy with the first-half performance.

The City skipper admitted they had committed some bad blunders at times this season.

“To be honest I would love to have more points,” Jakobsen told FourFourTwo.

“We should’ve got more out of the games against Brisbane Roar and Western Sydney Wanderers.

“We played better football in the first four games and after that we started to get sloppier at the back. We conceded some stupid goals, we want to aim for more and aim higher.

“If we had played our best, we would’ve got more points right now. We’re still sitting third, so that’s the positive with it.

“We had that same feeling against Newcastle, we feel we could’ve got more out of the game and it’s irritating when you’re close, but you’re not really there.

“We were under the pump in the first-half against Jets and then in the second-half we delivered a bit better. It was a good feeling and they’re a good team. They had a really good start to the season, so it was important to win.”

Jakobsen has had a big season so far for City, he became the captain and has played in a variety of positions including his traditional centre-back role, left-back and centre-defensive-mid.

He said his versatility would be beneficial for the team.

“It would be better to be in one position all the time, but it’s better for the clubs, then I’ll always do it,” he said.

“I’m getting a good run in three different positions and I just enjoy playing football.

“If it’s one place or another, it doesn’t really matter that much. It’s good to play in different positions, if we’re in trouble during a game or somebody has been sent off, then I can adjust. It just gives more opportunities to the coach.”

Jakobsen also said they could not take the Mariners lightly on Sunday and felt all teams matched up well in the A-League.

“I can’t think of any games where it’s an easy win or loss,” Jakobsen said.

“It’s very narrow with everybody, so it’s going to be a hard game again and we have to deliver better than what we dished up during the first-half in Newcastle.”
