Spurs striker Roman Pavlyuchenko was carried off the field on a stretcher after injuring his ankle in the first half at White Hart Lane and while that injury is not considered serious, skipper Ledley King picked up a hamstring complaint.

"Ledley came off with a hamstring and won't play for a long time," manager Redknapp said.

Spurs also had Aaron Lennon (groin), Vedran Corluka (thigh) and Heurelho Gomes (groin) carrying injuries and the trio would have been taken off at half-time under different circumstances.

"The physio wanted to take three players off at half-time after I already lost two," Redknapp said.

Brazilian goalkeeper Gomes would not have started if Redknapp had adequate back-up, but only youngster Ben Alnwick and Spanish veteran Cesar Sanchez are available.

This week will see Redknapp step up his search for a reserve stopper.

"It's an area I'm looking at," he said. "I'm looking for someone who is good enough for the first team when you need him.

"If I had confidence in the Spanish goalkeeper, I would have played him."

Redknapp feels the money available to Mark Hughes at City will be a factor in Spurs' attempts to buy Craig Bellamy from West Ham or Wigan's Wilson Palacios. It is thought that City are interested in both players.

"Man City are in and when they are the others have no chance," Redknapp said. "They just outbid and outpay. It will be difficult.

"I like Palacios. I think he is a tremendous player. The chairman is talking to Wigan."

He added: "I read that Tottenham fans don't want Craig Bellamy - he is a terrific player and just what Tottenham need. But I don't think it'll happen."

Redknapp was pleased with his team's character in earning a point after David Nugent had opened the scoring.

Jermain Defoe, who left Pompey to rejoin Spurs earlier this month, grabbed the leveller to lift Redknapp's men out of the relegation zone after starting the day bottom.

Redknapp was also positive about the impact of David Bentley when the England winger was brought on as a substitute.

"I spoke to him last week and told him what I expect from him and what makes him a player," Redknapp said. "He went out and did that. That was the David Bentley I knew at Blackburn and Arsenal as a kid - not the David Bentley I've seen here too much.

"I think the penny has dropped and we'll see a different David Bentley from now on."

Spurs could have taken all three points but Darren Bent missed a gilt-edged opportunity towards the end.

"You don't need advice - my missus could have scored it," Redknapp said. "David James has given up and is walking towards the back of the net. He had the whole goal to aim for."

Pompey boss Tony Adams praised Sol Campbell, who was jeered with every touch from Spurs fans who have never forgiven him for joining Arsenal in 2001.

"Sol was fantastic and mentally tough," Adams said. "With players like that, and our goalkeeper, I think we'll be okay."

Adams still wants to sign Jermaine Pennant from Liverpool but admits he does not want players who are not 100% committed to Pompey.

"I need players working hard and scrapping," Adams said. "They have to want to play."
