The defender enjoyed a successful loan spell at the club last season and helped them secure a play-off spot.

His loan ended before the ultimately successful promotion campaign and he returned to Middlesbrough, only to suffer relegation from the Premier League.

However, Burnley boss Owen Coyle is said to be keen to sign Williams permanently and the youngster seems keen to make it happen.

He told the Lancashire Telegraph: "I played 17 games for Burnley, and missing the play-offs killed me, but it was great to see the lads again.

"We'll have to wait and see what happens, but I'd love to come back.

"It's not all down to me at the end of the day, it's down to the two gaffers, but I wouldn't say no."
