In Gombau’s five games in charge the Wanderers have yet to record a victory, with three consecutive defeats in their past three matches, including the huge 5-0 loss to Sydney FC.

Western Sydney have slid down the table and now sit in ninth spot, only two points above bottom-placed Wellington.

The Spaniard is seeking to implement the possession-based, attacking focused philosophy that he used at Adelaide United.

“It’s not ideal timing when Josep came in, we didn’t get a pre-season under him,” defender Clisby said.

“That would be a good time to do that. But we can only do with what we’ve got. I feel that we will in time. It’s a new playing style and these things take time to adjust. It’s something that we’re working on.

“Obviously the results haven’t been going for us at the moment but it’s a work in progress, we’re following what Josep wants us to do and we’re going to continue to do that.

“Everyone’s trying to do it (adapt to the new style), it’s a matter of picking it up and some players it might suit their game style better than others.

“But I feel with the squad that we’ve got, in time, I believe in the system will change.”

Western Sydney were blown away by Sydney FC in the derby last weekend.

Clisby believes the heavy defeat to the Sky Blues was down to “minor errors”.

“I think it was just minor errors – the effort was there,” he said.

“Obviously Sydney FC outclassed us on the night and it’s something we need to work on to improve.

“Sydney have been an outfit together for three years. They know their system very well. As for us it’s a learning phase at the moment.”

The Wanderers face Central Coast this weekend and the fullback said his team are sticking together to turn things around.

“We’re a tight bunch of lads and we know we’re not in the best position we want to be in at the moment,” Clibsy said.

“We know we have to stick together. We’re all mates and we’re all going to work for each other. That’s one thing we definitely do have, which is a good team camaraderie.

“The desire within the group has always been there The Wanderers are a proud club and it comes from a working class community and the boys understand that.

"The character within the squad, I believe we have the right people for it to turn it around.”
