As the FFA continues on its mission to create more quality coaches in Australia, the rare opportunity to learn how to coach at the highest standard is still available to those who qualify.

The A Licence course is designed to educate the coaches in the tactical and advanced technical requirements of team football. The coaches will also be exposed to the demands of high-level performance through understanding of the physiological and psychological needs of the players. The course targets the full range of coaching competencies required for high-level performance at training and on match day, as well as off-field management skills.

The A Licence course is only conducted every two years, so those who miss this course will not get the opportunity to enrol on an A Licence until late 2012, and therefore will not be able to gain the accreditation until late 2013.

The A Licence is the minimum accreditation needed for the following positions: Senior National Team Assistant Coach, Most National Team Head Coach Positions, A-League Head Coach, A-League Assistant Coach, National Youth League Coach, NTC (State Institute) Head Coach, and many other key positions.

Before you rush into anything, there are a few pre-requisites for A Licence applicants:

  • Current FFA, AFC, or UEFA 'B' Licence
  • Coaching experience at senior competition level (min one year)
  • Significant playing experience preferred
  • Physically fit to participate in all practical sessions (applications from disabled coaches are welcome)
  • Proficient in written and spoken English
  • Enrolment is subject to the approval of the National Coach Education Manager and National Technical Director

Part one of the course will run from 29 November to 3 December, 2010, while part two will resume from 28 November to 2 December, 2011. It will take place at Sydney Academy of Sport, Narrabeen and costs $4600 (includes accommodation).

Application forms need to be completed and returned to the FFA by 22 October.
