One-time Sydney marguee target and former Holland and PSV Eindhoven captain Phillip Cocu is set to resume his career by signing a one-year deal with Abu Dhabi-based Al-Jazeera in the United Arab Emirates.
The 36-year-old, who scored what was effectively the title-winning goal in the final round of the 2006-07 season when PSV lifted the Eredivisie for a third successive year, told the PSV website: "I am ready to put pen to paper on a one-year contract."
The deal will end all speculation on the future of the midfielder who won 101 caps for his country.
Cocu had turned down offers to play in the A-League in Australia and has now shelved his original plan to retire from professional football.
Cocu had previously hinted in an interview with the Dutch football magazine Voetbal International that he was looking forward to a new challenge abroad.
"I will not play in a major league, but I would like to take up a new challenge," he said.
