EXCLUSIVE: Socceroos goalkeeper Nathan Coe insists he has no regrets about his decision to reject a new deal at Danish club SonderjyskE despite remaining clubless since leaving Denmark.
The 28-year-old Australian goalkeeper, who has three international caps and long been one of Mark Schwarzer's deputies, has fallen off the national team radar due to his club situation.
Coe, who left SonderjyskE in a bid to find a new adventure, told au.fourfourtwo.com he had received offers from clubs in Scandinavia, Asia and Eastern Europe early in the off-season but has held out for a better deal.
However, no suitable deal has been forthcoming for the former Inter Milan and PSV Eindhoven keeper who insisted he remains hopeful of finding a new home in the near future.
“If I was in the same situation I'd still do the same thing. I really wanted to try and get out of Denmark,” Coe told au.fourfourtwo.com.
“Although I loved my time in Denmark, I felt it was the right time to move outside and experience something different.”
Coe, who established himself as number one at SonderjyskE after spells at Randers and FC Copenhagen, conceded his situation did get frustrating at times but remained positive.
“Of course it gets frustrating at times, but to be honest I don't find it to be too bad,” he said.
“I want to be back playing and in a team environment, it has been a little bit frustrating but I must stay positive and keep working hard in case something pops up.
“I haven't been down at all. I've remained quite positive and I'm looking forward to the new adventure ahead.”
Brisbane born and raised Coe has been training with the Roar to maintain his fitness although he said he wasn't thinking about a move back to the A-League just yet.
“At this stage I want to go back overseas but you can't get away from the A-League at the moment with some unbelievable signings,” he said.
“You never say never, but I would like to go back overseas.”
However, Coe admitted his long wait for a new club had meant he had to revisit his expectations.
“You have to take into consideration everything which comes your way now,” he said.
“It is a different time now, so you need to consider all options. I am much more open now than I was before.”
