Argentine Melbourne City winger Nico Colazo was not short of humour after his involvement in Melbourne City’s first trophy for their men's team.
City defeated Sydney 1-0 in the FFA Cup Final on Wednesday night at home and he starred along with fellow South Americans Bruno Fornaroli and Fernando Brandan.
Colazo believed the victory’s magnitude would extend to back home in Argentina after being a servant to Boca Juniors for eight years.
“I know (Australian football isn’t popular), I am here with Fernando and Bruno, so now it’s popular back home,” Colazo joked.
“(The Cup) it’s important for the club, for us and the news will come there (to Argentina).”
And after returning to football after missing out since Round Two of the A-League, he returned in Sunday’s 2-1 win over Wellington Phoenix and managed a full game in the final.
Coach John van’t Schip said pre-game the little niggles would not matter because of the final, however Colazo admitted he was surprised he lasted 90 minutes.
“I was surprised, one month ago I was having surgery, I didn’t think I would be allowed to play this much so I’m very happy for that,” he said.
“(Cahill’s goal) it’s a great goal, great header, we’re happy for the group for the first cup for the club, we’re very happy.”
City now turn their attention to Round Nine of the A-League against Brisbane Roar on Saturday.
